David Scott has produced another excellent document covering the recreational history of the Main Range.
In the winter of 1899 a party travelled by horseback from Jindabyne to Snowy Plain, Diggers Creek.
KHA member John Purves enjoyed many years ski touring to our huts over many years and sent in this collection of prints for the enjoyment of members. The indefatiguable Rex Cox, champion of the rebuilding of Broken Dam Hut, and serial KHA donor, features regularly. The collection included photos of John & Patty Purves and fellow ski tourer Colin Brown.

Long Plain Hut Gathering November 2026

The gathering was held at the beautiful campground at Long Plain hut overlooking Long Plain with a delightful stream nearby which runs down into the Murrumbidgee river. The hut itself sits above the campground in the day use area.

The reconstruction of ten heritage huts which were destroyed by the Black Summer bushfires in Kosciuszko National Park is now finished, with the completion of Round Mountain Hut.

Deep in the heart of Namadgi National Park, the bush is coming back to life.
But two heritage huts destroyed when 80 per cent of the park burned in the Black Summer bushfires remain in ruins, despite government promises to rebuild.
