Dear Visitor, The purpose of the Bulletin is to inform members of current activities, events and operational matters only. The general intention is for the body of the Bulletin to be brief.
ACT HUT REBUILDS - IMPORTANT UPDATEGeoff Ashley and I received an email from ACT Parks on Thursday 10 July to advise us that the RFQ (Request for Quotes) had been approved in regards to the Namadgi Huts Project (approved in October 2023.) but the approval made no mention of hut rebuilding. It mentioned recording and researching the burnt hut sites, doing interpretation and also a CMP for all the serial listed stockman's hut in Namadgi NP. We were subsequently advised by a Director that both financial reasons and a vague reference to what commemoration is needed were the reasons why the rebuilding had been removed from the RFQ. We are of course bitterly disappointed with this 'about face' in the decision and will be making further representations to ACT Government Ministers. The ACT Heritage Symposium is coming up on 2 August and a number of KHA members will be in attendance. This years theme is "A Future for the Past" a very important topic for us at the moment given this set back. We hope that those in attendance may get the opportunity to bring this matter up in any discussions there. We will keep members updated on the next steps we plan to take given this project was approved by two Ministers in October 2023 and then confirmed by the new Minister in February 2025. If any member would like more information or has ideas please let me know by email : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS - FINAL REMINDERThis a reminder to all members that renewals were due on 1 July, 2025. Many thanks to all those members who have already renewed their membership. All members are requested to renew online and pay subscription by either credit card or debit card on STRIPE if possible. By using this process you will save us many volunteer hours in manual processing. KHA has been using STRIPE since 2021 without fault and members can have confidence when using this payment process. Please contact the membership team at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are unable to renew online. Matthew Higgin's film on UtubePlease see link below to Matthew Higgins' film on Youtube. Called High Stakes: Snowy Mountains Winter, this film was made in 2009 but contains much to still to think about..The film now has historic importance as it includes Four Mile Hut, burnt down in the tragic 2020 fires,as well as Horse Camp and Whites River Huts and includes interiors in all three. The film also has sound so make sure you have your sound turned on. Many thanks Matthew. I always try to use photos of huts that have not been in previous calendars, though this is getting harder. Don't forget the ACT huts and it's also great to see people in the photos enjoying the huts. If you wish to submit a photo or have any questions, please email Simon on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. I would appreciate submissions by 30th September 2025, so you have plenty of time to get that perfect shot!
