KHA kids at Valentine Hut

After the unusually wet summer, the annual KHA work party to Valentine Hut was delayed until a weekend of ideal weather in mid-March.

Over 3 days KHA members sanded and painted the weatherboards that needed it, repainted the door, cleaned out and restocked the firewood store, sugar-soaped the internal walls, repaired the putty on the south and north-west windows, cleared out drainage routes and removed a firepit that was placed too close to the hut.

Most work parties here revolve around patch painting the exterior weatherboards. The hut will be due for a complete repaint in the next couple of years, but it is due for some significant work by the amazing NPWS crew to lift the SW corner.

Overall, the hut was in wonderful condition. Well looked after by visitors – which gauging from the log book are growing in number each year!
